FERI Judges Elementary School Science Fair

On February 25, 2005, three FERI employees volunteered to judge a science fair at Denham Oaks Elementary in Lutz, Fl. Third, fourth, and fifth grade students learned about the scientific method by creating and testing hypothesis in the fields of Earth, Physical, and Life Science. A total of 31 projects were selected by the teachers to participate in the science fair. The critiquing by FERI judges will narrow the field to 8 projects that will go on to compete at the district level. Good luck to the finalists and congratulations to all of the competitors.
CICORE Fall 2004 Press Releases

In the Fall of 2004, FERI participated in the California Center for Integrated
Coastal Observation, Research, and Education (CICORE) project along with
five other universities and institutions. FERI collected hyperspectral imagery
for 2805 square km of the California coast in a collaborative effort (via
in water, air and space) to establish a coastal ocean observatory for the
state of California. Please visit the CICORE link under Projects above for
more information and data. Links to several press releases about this mission
follow.

On November 16, 2004, FERI participated in the sixth
annual international Geographical Information Systems (GIS) Day. GIS
is the use of computerized data management systems designed to capture,
store, retrieve, analyze and report geographic and demographic information.
Global GIS Day is sponsored by the National Geographic Society, the
Association of American Geographers, UCGIS (University Consortium of
Geographic Information Science), United States Geological Survey, The
Library of Congress, Sun Microsystems, and ESRI. This local event, hosted
by the University of South Florida’s Saint Petersburg Campus, allowed
GIS users and businesses to interact with and educate students and the
general public about the real-world applications of technology in the
field of geography.
